Ms. Oliver's 6th Grade Discovery classroom

Welcome to 6th Grade Discovery!

We are here to learn and grow, make mistakes, discover and pursue our passions, push ourselves to be the best version of ourselves we can be, and have a ton of fun while we do it.

I strive to create a classroom that is a caring community in which we honor, respect, and celebrate our individual strengths, challenges, and differences. I want to inspire my students to be curious, passionate, and kind. We will learn to think critically, remain open to possibilities, and form excellent habits of learning. Their future will be bright, and I'm excited to guide them on their way!

I believe in partnering with students and their families to make their learning journey as successful as possible. Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns you might have; I welcome your collaboration!

About me

Hello! I am thrilled to be joining the team at Northridge as the 6th grade Discovery teacher. I have been teaching for over 16 years in a wide variety of settings, including Montessori lower elementary, English as a Foreign Language, and Gifted Education. I recently got my Master's in Gifted Education and am passionate about teaching gifted students; they are my favorite people!

When I'm not teaching, you can find me hanging out with my friends and family. I have two children (both neurodiverse as well!), a husband, and two cats. I love to dabble in a million different hobbies (some I'm good at, some not so much!). My interests include all things outdoorsy and active (rock climbing, skiing, paddle boarding, hiking, camping), reading fantastic novels, practicing yoga, binging excellent TV series, goofing around on the ukulele, traveling, and gardening.

My family at the beach in Cape Charles, VA this summer.

Horseback riding on the beach during a yoga retreat in Costa Rica.

Balancing on a crossing of Ouray's Via Ferrata.

With my family in Williamsburg, VA.
